So, do you think you have good habits as a player? Are you ready to admit that sometimes you stray from good bankroll management, gambling knowledge, and smart gambling practices? Well, it happened to me recently. Let’s see if you can find my mistakes in my Mohegan Sun Disaster.
Do what I say, not what I do?
I have always believed that learning should be a lifelong ambition. But, even when you think you have mastered the effective approach to gaming, something always comes up to remind you that you are human. My mother always warned me “Wait for the other shoe to fall” when I was proud of my accomplishments. Well this shoe must have been size 16 wide when I last visited Sun Mohegan. So let’s see if you can find the mistakes in my Mohegan disaster.
I should have been better informed
But when it comes to the game, it’s important to do your best to prepare. This guarantees your best chance of winning, right?

What follows is a testament to the fact that the best-designed plans of mice and gamers can still deliver a horrible experience. And these unexpected slowdowns in your game can lead a knowledgeable and generally intelligent player to fall into the pit of bad decisions.
Quick reminder of the expected value
Expected value, or EV, does not guarantee long-term success, but play without EV considerations guarantees long-term failure.
The expected value is the long-term average value and does not tell us if and how much we can win or lose by a specific bet in a game of chance. In the long term we hear after several thousand trials (games). The more tests we do (games), the closer we will come to the predicted expected valueedited by the mathematics of the random number generator.
Keep in mind that the EV cannot be fully trusted. Any single game can turn into a win or a loss, and any long or short session can score a jackpot or bring your bankroll to its knees.
Here is my story. remember, try to spot my mistakes.
A Mohegan solar disaster On Status Mayhem
For Chaotic stateI usually arrive when it starts – 6:00 am. That way, I don’t miss the possibility of 5X Status Points if it’s the first multiplier of the day. Unfortunately, I was a little early so I went straight to play Pai Gow Poker as places are filling up quickly. If the first multiplier was 2X, I would stay and play until the multiplier appeared. If it was 4X or 5X, I would be at the slots. This promotion is only valid for slot machines and video poker.
Well the first multiplier was 2X. So Pai Gow Poker was my choice until a better multiplier appeared. But not for long.
If anyone plays Pai Gow Poker, you know that over 60% of the hands played are usually pushes, getting your money back (when you are not playing the side bets).
I played two hands per trade, $ 25 each. Immediately the writing was on the wall – two deals, four lost hands, $ 100 in under two minutes. “Color me,” I said. I needed to protect my bankroll for the higher multipliers to come.
I was already feeling incredibly frustrated during one of my favorite promotions, but I was still waiting for the next shoe.
No more frustration
The next multiplier was also 2X. Well, instead of playing $ 25 keno, having breakfast, going for a walk, and waiting for the next multiplier, I gambled anyway.
Nothing hit – no bonus. Nada. My bankroll had been cut in half, still waiting for 5X. So, I played video poker – and I didn’t notice the multiplier had increased to 5X again! The wrong side? It had been that way for 30 minutes; I hadn’t noticed and continued to play an extremely volatile game with no success. Worse news – my bankroll was reduced to a paltry $ 100. Not the position I wanted to be in.
So I did what I always tell others never to do. With only 15 minutes left with 5X Status Points, I played $ 0.25 Ultimate X, Triple Play Double Double Bonus (a volatile game in itself) like crazy. The result – no four-of-a-kind, no big hands with an Ultimate X multiplier, nothing.
My plan was a failure.
- The playing time was shorter than I wanted.
- Bankroll ended in shambles
- My favorite promotion was a horrible failure.
- My ADT (Theoretical Daily Average) may have suffered too.
The game is an adventure, a journey of ups and downs. But realizing that sessions like the above do happen, and that’s part of the beast, eases the pain. Also, if you are sticking to your gambling bankroll, consider it entertainment.
After reading my story, I found 13 mistakes in my walk that day. What mistakes have you seen in the story?
Like I said, learning is an ambition of life. Applying this knowledge can be summed up in three words: “Try, try again”.
